Container Shipping Cost Increases
As a result of the Covid-19 pandemic and its repercussions on the worldwide economy and due to a reduction in available containers, the worldwide ocean supply chain has been dramatically affected leading to unpredictable delays.
Given the situation, shipping companies began raising prices and continue to do so on a regular basis with new “prime” taxes and surcharges.
Initially, we thought that the container availability would return to its pre-pandemic levels within a few months, but it appears that we will face these shortages into the summer with no clear ending date. As such, we continue to experience price increases from the shipping companies with no possibility for negotiation.
Other shipping companies are adjusting Bunker Recovery Charge (BRC) as well with new surcharges, and every shipping company appears to be creating their own rules.
