BLAZE™ wire is designed with a double layer construction of gamma phase brass on beta phase brass.

Consistent with other state of the art gamma brass constructions, the gamma brass layer is discontinuous exposing an adjacent, continuous beta brass layer.

However, the gamma phase brass of the Blaze wire also contains an element of its microstructure that uniquely distinguishes it from the gamma phase brass of other prior art constructions.

The gamma brass of Blaze wire contains beta brass particles that have been precipitated within the gamma brass phase field as well as the beta phase brass in the continuous layer adjacent to the gamma brass particles.  A long standing principle of metallurgy is that the mechanical properties of a metallurgical system are strongly influenced, if not determined, by the metallurgical microstructure of that system. In the case of Blaze wire, the properties which distinguish it from other Gamma Type wires are its toughness and the resultant cutting speed such toughness can generate at more aggressive technologies applied through the machine tool.  One measure of toughness is the ratio of the maximum cutting speeds which can be achieved without wire breakage by a given wire type in compromised flushing conditions (e.g. interrupted cut or displaced flush cups) compared to the maximum speeds under ideal (sealed) flushing conditions.
